The headlines are a-buzz about Sarah Palin’s recent 150K campaign-financed shopping spree. I’m sure you’ve seen the stories, if not, this Latimes.com story sums it up.
I thought it’d be kind of fun to think about how I’d spend that money, t’were it mine.
THINGS I COULD DO WITH $150,000, BY JACKIE:
- Pay off the next 10.4 years of health-insurance premiums (for family coverage)
- Pay off the next 19 years of my health-insurance premiums if I continue with the high-deductable plan I currently have, which leaves me grossly under-insured but covered in case something catastrophic happens, like my head explodes.
- Pay off the next 8.3 years of private school for both my kids who are in private school because their public school SUCKS
- Pay off 93% of my mortgage
- Pay off all my unsecured debt - including all credit cards, my car loan and an undisclosed amount I owe the government for taxes I should’ve paid in 2007, but instead used to pay the tuition of the aforementioned private school
- After attending to #5, I could then give 50K each to my children for college
Well, that was fun. I’m such a big spender, aren’t I?
Here’s a quote from a Reagan administration lawyer who is supposedly an expert in nonprofit and election law, “There is absolutely nothing wrong with the expenditure, as long as it is 100% focused on the campaign,” [dumbass] said. “If they need to spend that money in order to keep her clean, clothed and focused because she is on the road 24/7, then that’s an appropriate expenditure.”
Really? REALLY? They needed $150,000 to keep her clean, clothed and focused for two months? That’s the argument my 4-year-old could potentially make for the endless stream of Barbie clothes she insists her already well-clothed dolls need. But mommy! I NEED this DRESS because it’s booo-teee-ful! One can’t expect Barbie to go to a function wearing a dress she’s already been seen in, can one?
Palin’s press secretary insists it’s fine to buy Palin all her fancy schmancy clothes because it’s all going to be donated to charity after the campaign is over. Oh Goodie! We all know how delicious designer boots taste with some fava beans and a nice chianti.

I love your blog - it’s so cutting edge and refreshingly witty.
Keep it up, we need more people to show that Americans truly aren’t as “moranic” as we might seem to the rest of the world.
